I call them lazy, and will continue to call them lazy because it is the most straightforward way to criticize their shitty development cycles. You can call the games rushed, underfunded, understaffed, I don't care but the end result is the same. The games don't have nearly enough TLC put into them as they deserve, yet Gamefreak refuses to address this game after game. So I WILL continue to call them lazy, because no matter what the truth is, it is their decision to keep letting the games wallow in mediocrity. (incompetent developers that use the same Lilly model hundreds of times is also a likely reason)

It sounds completely contradictory, but its actually true. Japan actually appreciates and glorifies turning up to work on time and working long hours over actually doing a good job. Your actual output isnt important. Whats important is just being at your desk

Its a country all about image, respect and boundaries whilst sticking to tradition. Obviously not everyone is like that and you get occasional gods of game design and passion swanning in and delivering perfection. But they’re few and far between because the industry on the whole doesnt reward talent. It rewards time. You can literally sit at your desk doing fuck all for 5 years, be absolutely under-qualified for your job, and you’ll be picked for a promotion over the hotshot golden boy thats 10x more skilled and qualified than you, because hes only been here 4 years
