Every pokemon are catchable between the two versions. Non-region pokemon appears after beating the league.
All legendary have in-game events distribuited by wi-fi allowing them to have their respective alt forms or new moves.
Rematchable gyms and elite 4 with higher level 70+ pokemon after the first round.
Every item is purchable at reasonable price except master balls and rare candy.

This. There are so many mechanics that new players will never experience until they are blindsinded by them by online battles because GF won't show them off.

I would love to fight a trick room team, for example.

The thing about traditional RPGs is that when you know how the game works the only way to make it hard is making it tedious (i.e. overleveling the enemies)

People who play competitive will never find Pokemon "hard". It will always be "easy" or "unfair", but never something in between
