Paul's battling method was good but he treatment toward pokemon was bad while Ash's treatment toward pokemon was good but his battling method wasn't that great. At the end, both of them needed to learn from each other, Paul learning to respect his pokemon while Ash learns to use more planning instead of just relying on power of friendship and quick thinking.
