It's not just collecting. It's also replayability and player choice variety. You could use whatever combination of Pokémon you could want. That's a huge part of the game, too.

I think that if they plan on including battles and National Dex in pokemon HOME, then I think their most recent decisions are totally understandable. It might be a case where they fucked up the announcement schedule, when they should have just announced both at the same time

It would make most people happy, with each main series game having its own meta based on the regional dex of pokemon, while battling in Pokemon HOME is a free for all as always

If this is what their plan is, I'll be really happy

Yeah, there won't even be a gen VIII meta if all the games are incompatible with each other, unless pokémon not in the game files appear as some question mark or something.

They'll just make sure to include all Sinnoh Pokémon in SS (whether they appear in Galar or not), so that the two games in this generation are compatible. And then the next generation will have another set of Pokémon.
