In Star Trek there is a transporter that “beams” people up and down from planet to ship by displacing their mass and literally beaming them through space before they are reassembled in their new location. Philosophically these are not the same physical beings beamed up, they were broken down, converted to moveable energy, and then reassembled as they were in a new area while maintaining the memories they had before being beamed.
Now think of a Pokeball. It does the same exact thing. Pokemon are beings capable of becoming pure energy. They literally explode energy outward when they evolve or mega evolve. Elemental stones give off energy and change Pokemon, as do certain terrains.
Pokemon are caught, they turn into light, the light is stored as data (not SIMPLE data, because theres nothing simple about it as they are living creatures) and then the Pokemon is reassembled from energy (another light) after being let out of the ball.
Are the people in Star Trek “simple data”? No. Neither are Pokemon.
But it doesnt change the fact that they are converted INTO data to be stored in a weird quantum computer.
