Why did they build a city fucking all the way underground? Pyrite was like 100 feet away, they could have chilled there instead. Wtf was this shit for?

There was already a canyon there, and Pyrite is presumably an old mining town. There were probably just a lot of tunnels down there anyway, and so people decided to pave it over, install an elevator, and sell it as cheap real estate.
