I was only 6 and still discovering gen 1 at the time through Pokemon Yellow. In 2003, gen 3 felt more official to me, whereas to older people it probably seemed like some fake Pokemon knock off ala Unova

I remember being completely underwhelmed by the starters. I always pick the cool one, and none of them had that factor. It wasn't even gen 4 yet, but most of the roster really needed that move type split

Yeah, I was around for Gen 3 pre-release era. I learned about the AG anime, the movies, and all of the new Pokemon from Pojo. Pelipper, Sharpedo, and Shroomish were shown off on the official website in summer 2002 as a tease for Ruby and Sapphire. Good times, good times.

Man I remember how fucking hyped I was at this. It released the same day school ended and eventhough I mostly played this alone and 2 friends who also played this didn‘t habe a link cable, this shit was incredibly great.
Because they nailed the new old /pokemon aspect. Everytime you battled a gymn leader or something you were like, huh what pokemon is this?

gen 3 was the only gen I played without being spoiled on most of the pokemon. Gen 1 and 2 I was spoiled by watching the anime first and every gen after I started using the internet to look up info.

Yeah. I just turned 9 and before the games came out I got my hands on a magazine that had the complete Hoenn dex. Somehow I managed to memorise the names and types of all 135 new Pokemon. I never could use that gift for studying.
