.. well more like clarification.
I'm not new to Pokemon but I'm starting to finally get interested in online battling. I thought the only way to battle others were through the main story games like sun and moon and LGPE but apparently the more popular way is through Pokemon showdown?

So I guess my question is, is Pokemon showdown just a copy and pasted version of every Pokemon and it's exact stats from the game? What the heck is smogan? Does the Pokemon company directly own showdown?
I am very confused...
