>>39260847I liked being dumped into a hostile world of mystery to explore. The Zeldtroidvania model. Pokemon did this, but as a monster raising rpg with a spritely fleshed-out fantasy world.
The games have increasingly not delivered on this concept. Just the aesthetics of such.
I was going to quit after XY, but hoenn was my 1st and favorite, so I bit the hook on ORAS, one last nostalgia trip, not expecting them to retrofit the new game design style onto a remake of an older game. After the absolute disappointment that was ORAS I was wholly done, but SuMo made big promises of change, and friend and reviews claimed it was good, so I eventually fell for the hype. And it was admittedly at least better than ORAS.
But I'm not making the same mistake a third time.
The Dexit snappening is more a symptom of larger trends than any camel-breaking straw.
Instead, I'll probably try the ones they actually are putting some effort into, Masters and Town. Masters for sure since it's free to try.
I realize I'm playing into their hands, but they're not going to get any better. If we buy, they'll learn they can get as lazy and dumbed down as they want and people will buy anyways.
If we don't, they'll use it as an excuse to kill the mainline handheld/console series for not selling.
Between two options of predecided death, I'll choose the quick and painless one that still results in at least one halfway decent game to play.
