AG has the highest ratings after the OS, which makes May the most watched/viewed female lead worldwide after Misty. Which of course makes sense, AG aired almost 20 years ago in the early 2000's when most of the original fanbase was still watching

The closest thing that would tell you how Japan feels about it is the animefest, where this year SM didn't make the top 90s even though Everyone's Story made the top 10 in the movies category. The year prior SM made 42nd but it still ended up being under XY&Z that was in the same category that year.

As for ratings, that's been dropping to the lowest point since a little bit before the timeslot change. It's just been lower and lower.

There's always a ratings boost at the start of each new series because a whole bunch of people are tuning in to check out the new gen. It has nothing to do with any "fiascos". Early XY had higher ratings than late BW, early BW had higher ratings than late DP, early DP had higher ratings than late AG, and so on. Interest in Pokemon in general is always going to be at its highest at the start of a new gen.

I don't think it matters much, the adventures are up and down in excitement, but the same formula.

Ash gets around six or more Pokemon, starts with a nerfed Pikachu, gets beat by a rookie once he arrives, gets beat some more, earns badges, evolve the popular mon he has, usually between 1 and 3.

Attends the League, get to a point then gets beaten. His best match was against Tobias, even if he should have gone with his ace mon Sceptile first. The kid that laughs at type advantage got his Herracross beat by a Darkrai.

The thing is that these ratings faggots keep going on about reflect how many people watch something LIVE when it airs, but doesn't take people recording or streaming the show into account. Live TV viewership is general has dipped hard for TV series and movies over the 20 years Pokemon has been on the air, that's why it's been ages since TV ratings gave you an accurate picture of how many viewers a show actually has. THAT's why comparing ratings across generations is dumb. Just because last week's episode got a rating of 1.0 or whatever and some shitty Decolora filler from ass-end BW got a 2.1 doesn't mean less people watched the SM episode the week it aired. It just means less people sat in front of the TV watching the episode that half hour it aired.

Of course, tv ratings aren’t really something to measure the popularity of a merchandise-driven series like Pokemon. A better indicator are things like the animefest rankings where SM is doing abysmally, being surpassed by XY even 2 years after its end

But people sitting there comparing fucking ratings from 10 years ago to today's ratings and claiming that means a lot less people are watching now than then are retarded. Mid DP getting ratings in the 10s and early SM getting ratngs in the 3s doesn't mean early SM got watched by less people than mid DP.

Unfortunately that's mostly what these ratingspergs try to do. "The season my waifu was in had higher ratings than the season your waifu was in so she'smore popular and they should bring her back" etc etc.

He's one away from a full team last ep I watched (not fully caught up on the subbed eps).

Not the most exciting series so far, though. The anime never had the best rep as a whole, but this just seems to wander aimlessly without the badge progression. The art style takes some getting used to as well. Still, something to watch in the morning and see if they do something half decent with the league thing.

It's doing pretty good considering that TV ratings in Japan have dropped significantly. The fact that Sun and Moon's ratings are lowest among any other Pokemon show doesn't say if it's successful or not, because, for example, Dragon Ball Super is a successful show ratings wise and throughout its run had 4 times lower the ratings than Dragon Ball Z. And these days TV shows acquired a completely new safety net instead of DVDs: streaming.

The basic fact is that if Sun and Moon is still going on over 100 episodes in, it means it's probably successful.

Pokemon's ratings have been dropping even relative to other series though. Super has much lower ratings than Z, but still often was a top 5-7 show. Meanwhile, Pokemon was slowly dropping through the top 10 as the years passed and Sun and Moon ever since the timeslot change has had really bad presence. It initially still made it to the top 10 a couple of times, but in the last few months just disappeared completely. Even the one week several shows didn't air freaking Duel Masters appeared in the top 10 rather than it.

Of course, the show will continue airing due to Pokemon Company sponsoring it to market the games, but the more it drops the mroe one wonders why the Pokemon anime doesn't drop all original material and becomes 100% game advertisement (with game protagonists and such rather than Ash and Team Rocket), since it's clear the original material has less and less value and the show now survives only as advertisement rather than something with its own selling power.

The drop in ratings when the show moved timeslots is notable, because it was so big. ALL the people that suddenly stopped watching it live didn't start taping it, so that definitely meant the show lost viewers.

The "alamist tone" is retarded, though. Pokemon's ratings are far from abysmal - the fact that we know what they are in the first place means it's one of the most watched anime shows in Japan, since only the ratings for the 10 most watched shows get published. If Pokemon's ratings are "abysmal", what are the ratings of all the shows that NEVER rank? Why is this site writing alarmist articles about Pokemon when Naruto/Boruto has had consistently worse ratings for over 10 years? If Pokemon's ratings are so horrendous, what are Naruto's? It's better. Animation is still kind of cheap but the trial scenes are directed in a way they feel much closer to the game.
