Let's face it, Pokémon was never a good game to begin with. The human mind is goal and accomplishment orientated and Pokémon just abuses this aspect of the mind. You're constantly given artificial rewards by way of leveling up, catching Pokémon, evolving, getting a gym badge, etc.
As far as actual depth goes however, Pokémon has none at all. The characters are 1-dimensional, with no real depth or personality. The plotline is almost none-existent beyond the goal of achieving your task. There's no love, no meaning, no hidden message. The game is extremely bland within this regard.
We can then look at the actual gameplay itself. It's extremely simplistic and requires no actual skill at all. It's basically just an advanced version of rock-paper-scissors and again offers no real depth. You do not become more intelligent or gain any wisdom by playing Pokémon. You do not learn or gain any new skill or improve yourself within any aspect. You're just a monkey mashing the same button over and over again.
And artistry? Creativity? Does Pokémon spark your imagination? No. Even within this regard the game is utter tripe. Musically it's terrible. Graphically it's terrible.
To sum it up, the game is utterly devoid of anything truly meaningful, and every Pokémon game since has been the same. It's utter trash. You're just craving artificial rewards. You're just the donkey chasing the carrot on a stick.
