The mainline games are easily the weakest part of the franchise right now. I'd actually say the TCG and PoGo are the strongest parts. If the mainline games took a break for half a decade to reassess what they need to be to be that's fine. Spinoff Pokemon games tend to be better anyway. Pokken, Mystery Dungeon, shit even Pokemon Snap were all more memorable and fun than the last four mainline games to come out.
Also PoGo tricked me into making friends with local people.
