I don't really find them "boring", just mediocre really. But it has some really nice locations and the Johto remixes are super comfy.
Kanto really needed some kind of postgame though, and I think Sevii Islands are fine for a first try.
I wish I had played the minigames more than once though.

Which one is finished? I know there's Liquid Crystal which is OC DONUT STEEL Johto, a GBC hack that looks extremely promising, Naranja which may have been good for it's time but aged like milk and is abandoned, Shiny Gold Sigma which is buggy shit with a greedy jew developer, and one last Firered hack that replaces the Sevii Islands with Orange not worth going all the way through Kanto again for.
