Patience is one of my best qualities. I just find the gen 5 clusterfuck sprites ugly, the areas unappealing, and the selection of black/white in particular to be disappointing. The large volume of dialogue is the least of the game's problems for me, it's aesthetically lacking and holds no surprises or things that inspire me to explore further. The game gives me no reason to play it.

Honestly, I feel the exact way when a cutscene appears impeding my progress in Sun and Moon. I wouldn't care if the story and characters were good, but I can't say that about Pokemon. The dialogue and character interactions feel bland and everyone outside of Team Skull is super nice and helpful. It's offputting.

Reaching my 30s soon.
Honestly this whole thing has made me incredibly sad.
Usually after every E3 I'm super happy... But this time I'm just devastated, despite all of the good games shown.
I haven't even properly played any games after seeing how awful SwSh is. I try, open something up, play 30 minutes tops, but then think about SwSh again and I just stop. Nothing in gaming has hurt me as much as this.
I wasn't nearly this devastated since the Breath of Fire 6 announcement or the DMC reboot game reveal, which luckily a lot of people hated and now DMC is back with DMCV and better than ever before. (Hopefully we might see a good Breath of Fire game again)
But sadly, I know it won't be the same for Pokémon.

I'm just so sad and I just wanna enjoy video games but I can't because this is really depressing me because even though I've clocked more hours into games like Animal Crossing, MMORPGs and Bethesda games, Pokémon ALWAYS had a special place in my heart until the 3DS games dropped and the quality went to shit. I was holding on... Hoping Pokémon would get better on the Switch, but fucking nope.

If Masuda wanted to get rid of long-time fans, he's certainly achieving that now.

Exploration is the biggest factor for me in enjoying a game. Most likely because I came to Black and White AFTER playing X and Y, the game doesn't hold any intrigue or surprises for me. I was spoiled on all of the plot points, it's obvious what pokemon will be in what areas, and what the areas will be like just based on the map. In general, I had a little fun with chargestone cave, but everything else feels... obligatory and uninspired, to me. When I mentioned 'the selection', I was referring to the pokemon selection. The games might not be totally predictable, but from my perspective, there's nothing 12 hours in that makes me go 'I wonder what will be here' 'I wonder what this character will do.' It doesn't inspire the same wanderlust the rest of the series does for me.

however I think what your saying does hold a good amount of weight, nothing was truly unpredictable and very base level probably given the soft reboot they were going for.
I would say exploration was at an all time high given how many off the beaten paths there were but you needed to go looking for them and its true nothing really grabs your attention to go seeking them yourself

Trying to play through it a half-dozen times hasn't been to prove it was bad or out of masochism. It's because there MUST be something I'm missing for it to be so well-loved by its fans, and I want to figure out what that is. So far, the best guess I have is 'something that doesn't appeal to me.' personally I like all of gen 5 and the payoff in the sequels are nice, but if it just isn't fun I'd say skip ahead cause the 2s have a lot more to offer

I honestly agree with the poor selection. Too much of the interesting stuff comes way too late and evolves even later. The dex itself is fine, but not a lot sticks out until around the 7th gym. Not only that, the side routes aren't all that exciting since they're extremely straightforward and easy to navigate. I get that Pokemon isn't the pinnacle of great map design, but it felt as if they didn't even try here.

My problem with it is that the payoff isn't worth it, or you never get to use the mon at all. By the time you get Bisharp and Braviary, you're already fighting in the E4. And it's not like they're insanely good to make up for it. Then there's the gears and the ice cream. Regardless of how you feel about their design, they're fully evolved at the same time Haxorus is, yet Haxorus is a billion times better while both the gears and ice cream have shitty movepool. You'll never get to use Volcarona or Hydreigon.

I liked that I had to use more strats and less brute strength and with the way leveling worked it was perfect

You have to be grinding your ass off to be able to use Volcarona or Hydreigon by the E4. Most of the E4 members are in the low-mid 50s range, which is when some of the other late evolvers actually evolve. I don't mind not being able to brute force things, but I also want to actually use certain mons without handicapping myself.

My issue is that it doesn't work at all for the purpose of the main game because the power of most of the stuff you get late doesn't match up. Braviary comes at level 54 and it's worse than Staraptor which is an early game bird in gen 4.

Yeah, this longtime fan wanted the culling since gen 5. Because it was ridiculously huge even back then.

No, the nationaldex thing is about telling gamefreak to bring back the dex. You don't go to the company expecting them to change the product because the company owes nothing to you. They can do whatever product they want.

We, as consumers, can make the company change through our (lack of) purchases. That's were we have the upper hand. We should tell the normalfags to not buy the game right away instead of expecting them to not do it because of GF awful decisions.

same to both--I've just become so jaded/despondent in general (depression, shitty life, no friends or social skills, etc.) but now i'm jaded with games and other media too... no motivation, nor enjoyment received from shit anymore. masuda/gamefreak have ruined any joy I used to get from Pokemon games, which i've loved since i got blue version as a kid (it's not just 'aging out' of the series like some people argue; they've genuinely put the least effort possible into the games for years now.) I haven't enjoyed playing any of them since Gen5, and stopped buying after SM was a huge letdown.
