Honestly, it would free up space for creative Grass / Fire / Water monsters.

But then again, I wouldn't mind a game where your starter is just a regular Rattata.

Yeah I'd actually like that.
With the huge roster of Pokemon we have now, GF could actually do some outsourcing and get somebody to make their own interpretation of a Pokemon game. An official fangame so to speak.

There are grass/fire/water overbooking, especially with the last one.

3 starters x 3 evos x 8 generations = 72 Pokémon

They need to stop patterns. No more starters, early bird, early rodent, pseudo-Pikachu nor cover legendaries

9 starters + 3 bird + 2 rodent + 1 Pikachu + 3 legendaries = 18 Pokémon of 80 new species (in the best case right now)

I've always wanted a game to start you in the safari zone or an area like it to catch your first pokemon. It seems so easy to put together, but now that safari zone's dead, we'll never see it happen, sadly.
