My point is both franchises removed the gimmicks, though with Digimon they're focusing on their game's core elements, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pokemon does Human shit as their next gimmick, they haven't tried it in-game yet so it's fairly possible.

Depends what game style you like.

Typical JRPG/mon game:
- Digimon World 3
- Digimon World DS
- Digimon World Dawn/Dusk
- Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
- Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory
- Digimon Adventure on PSP with Eng patch
(There's Digimon World: Data Squad for PS2, but if you didn't like the anime you'll never like that game, either, plus it's super mediocre as is expected from an anime adaptation game)

Where you have no direct control of your Digimon and need to care for it, also have Digimon Death:
- Digimon World 1
- Digimon World Re:Digitized on PSP (has Eng patch, iirc the better 3DS version has no patch)
- Digimon World: Next Order

All the others are heavily experimental games I'd say and pretty much all of them are trash or worse than mediocre.

As a game itself, it's pretty good, There's about 300 Digimon or so, each with their own signature move, the story is pretty good, though /vp/ doesn't really care for anything that isn't Pokemon, let alone other Monster Games. I'd say try it out if you're into JRPGs generally.

Is this the reverse Pokemon where instead of one game in two versions we're getting two versions as one game? Would it really kill Gamefreak to have players choose one out of two paths at the very beginning of the game? I think western release of YW3 had a split path/version scenario.

The only issue I had with it is that some of the translations seem a bit botched. The dialogue is usually fine but every once in a while a character will respond with something seemingly random or off topic.

Digimon never had a main series unlike Pokémon that played the exact same throughout all titles.
And no Digimon game has ever had all Digimon in nor could you transfer your Digimon over to any game, unlike Pokémon that was built up around those things and rewarding the player for completing their Pokédex.

It's not $60, it's $50, so it's even cheaper and you get 2 full games for the price of one.
