I've never bonded with something that isn't real. I've had designs I've liked but never have I made that leap of faith that mass produced data could love me. The idea of taking a single Pokémon through each game and calling it a "shouldermon" or anything similar is foreign to me. I've played for years and of course I liked to imagine how cool it would be if I actually was going on an adventure with real Pokémon, but the only sad part about releasing a Pokémon is throwing away all the effort you put into it. Yeah, there's also the sentimental value of throwing away your starter or something rare, but it's not alive. It's not sentient.
The culling bugs me, but it was never the biggest problem. It's just another drop in the pool. Once again the games will be a railroaded regional tour without interesting side content, gameplay gimmicks dropped in favor of newer gameplay gimmicks that will be dropped, and a lack of real options for veteran players. In short, it'll be another shallow experience that is only held up by aesthetics.
