I mean, it is? It's been around since the beginning of the franchise and constantly tops Pokemon popularity polls regardless of all the hundreds of Pokemon that have been introduced afterwards. It's a fire-breathing dragon which thematically fits Galar anyways.

Because Gardevoir just became fairy type and got a mega, both of which were super relevant to the new gen. Nothing links Charizard to gen 8 yet that we know of. So until then, they're pandering at the expense of moving the franchise forward.
