Silver was actually a dick but he progresses throughout the game and I liked the idea of having a legit criminal as a rival. HGSS added some more neat dialogue that I liked too. While Blue was legit a tough guy, Silver seemed to me like someone weak just trying to pass off as a tough guy. Kinda sad the two never meet in-game.
Wally and May were invisible the entire game and I honestly didn't even mind it since the best part about Emerald for me was the exploration, so doing everything on my own was great.
Barry was great. He reminded me of some friends I had a long time ago and it made me nostalgic. I don't think he's the best character, but he seems like the most trustworthy friend out of them all. Dawn I don't know if she was supposed to be a rival, but she was helpful I guess.
The red guy in XD was a bit generic. Felt he could have been a cooler character if the plot had been fleshed out more.
Cheren and Bianca were both great, but I liked Cheren more since I can relate to him in some sense. And since they're in the spotlight in BW2 as well, it makes me appreciate their progression as people more. Only complaint is that they kinda steal the spotlight in BW2 but that ties in with my criticisms of the game's story.
N was a cool character but infuriating with his philosophy and a bit of a hypocrite, though I get that's the point
I like Hugh. At first he seemed like a discount Barry, but then he shows off more of his character. I wish he got some more though, because he ended up feeling a bit shallow. Can't count the number of times he told someone they were gonna feel his rage.
