We don't 100% know if the info about Sirfetched is real, but doesn't stop the fact that after Gen4's Gamefreak stop doing cross-gen evo.

Mega and to a lesser degree Alolan forms were introduced as a means to increase/improve on old Pokemon without having something permanently added into Pokemon evolution line. The hate cause by Rhyperior, Magmortar, Tangrowth, etc.. was great enough to cause Gamefreak to avoid it unless it's something like Eevee and it's main gimmick.
