Japanese inspired other regions are much better than 1:1 like kalos or alola. Kalos had some neat artdesign but everything else was meh. This has neat artdesign and still looks fantasy-ish.

I agree that the Japan-based regions are better, but I think it's more because they're closer to 1:1 than Unova on. They end up feeling more organic since each location is based on something that's really in Japan.

Then you get to Unova, and suddenly there's a fucking desert and castle in the middle of New York City, along with a sunken castle right off the coast.
