Not the peak, that's Plat/HG/SS. It's like FFX. Gen 5 games were very good, but they also started the downfall.

Pretty much. The gen had good boss fights and pokemon had good movesets, but the handholding was cranked up to not let you discover anything accidentally and the story dialogue was shoved in your face in almost every new area.

Technically, B2W2 already backtracked from the actual inventive things about BW and probably should have been a warning sign even back then, but its positive aspects far outweighed that so nobody cared.

What are these inventive thing(s) that BW did that BW2 backtracked on? Because the only thing I can think of is no wild non DW pokemon pre e4 which was necessary to make the game feel fresh if you're going to release the same region again.

Black and White wasn't the peak. Just good to great. BW2 was the decline but had some nice features.

B2W2 is the best game in the series, followed by HGSS. It was the peak that led to the decline since it was unfairly received

Gen 5 is my favorite, but while it peaked in several areas it did start the removal of content, subpar storytelling, and simplification of world design.

Unova is not a very interesting region and I hate most of the Gen V designs. BW is a mess but B2W2 is passable. The decline starts in gen 6.
