Virbank is great. Especially at night.
My favourite town is probably Azalea Town. Mostly because of the music, especially in the remakes. Shit never fails to get me nostalgic as hell. There's something about that song that gets me emotional.

Gen 5 never actually stood out to me, in terms of cities, outside of Castelia. I do remember the atmosphere of that region being fucking fantastic though. It really felt like a lived-in world rather than a collection of houses built for you to pass through and then never visit again.

Sootopolis was great for the look and the music, less so if you think about how livable it would be logically. Hoenn had some really great towns from a thematic standpoint. But tree houses and sea houses would be a fucking nightmare in any other circumstance other than "cool town to see in a videogame."

What? Gen 3 had awesome town concepts. Sootopolis, Fortree City, Pacifilog, the list goes on. The only thing really holding them back was Gamefreak and the GBA

You fell for the meme most likely. The region does have its flaws, like any other, but it's such a refreshing experience overall. Great locales, great trainer designs, interesting characters and the introduction to other nice features like seasons, hidden abilities and gems. Not going to bother mentioning the regional dex because whether you like it or not depends on you.

Gen 2 had the benefit of a day/night cycle so you could see more of them, hard to top a city like Goldenrod/Ecruteak/Olivine with that.
