Often you don't need to look further than obvious inspirations. Things like Lolpunny and Tsareena are based off of the Playboy Bunny and a dominatrix, respectively. Gardevoir is based off, what, a katashiro doll?
And you can't argue for Gardevoir's waifu status by pointing out later additions like Gallade and Mega Gardevoir. Gamefreak might be inept but they aren't stupid. They know how popular Gardevoir has become and the nature of that popularity. They've strive to include a resident waifumon in every dex since.
