>>39354170Because this way they don't have to identify who the champion it is so it can be a surprise, but they can still build up the champion as a character before battling them. If they wanted the champion to be a surprise and have a league in place from the start, it would've been a bland empty character with no attachment to the player, because the battle would've been the first time you met.
