Gen 3 was the most soulful design wise with how varied they were. Gen 4-5 were adding stupid stuff to good design dragging them down. Gen6-7 were designed with merch over being a monster and gem 8 they had only eight hours on each pokemon

all of you are cringe. the reason why the earlier gens, gen 1 in particular, look so different is because each one has had a different set of designers and style they were going for.
gen 1 had only sugimori, morimoto and two other nips working on the designs, but as the series went on there became more and more of them, for gen 6 a total of 21. Now, for gen 8, we have an American as an art director who wasn't even a part of the original designer team, and it is obvious that he wants to make his own style.

The art style drastically changed in Gen 5 onward. For the worse too, there are hardly any powerful-looking beasts to tame, just a bunch of noodle-dicked Steven Universe-esque Deviantart OCs to befriend or whatever

Because they’re psychic types and fighting types. Their abilities are what defines their design. They’re good designs for their powers. But recent Pokémon designs are getting more ridiculous and too much look unrealistic from what their base form should evolve into. Litten’s evolution line is a good example of what I mean. Fire kitty grows into a fire cat in second stage.But somehow, it’s third evolution it grows a human-shape body and performs wrestling moves? Like WTF ?

Face it, Pokémon was always cute.
Even with the Toriyama eyes, no Pokémon look realistic or creepy enough to be really threatening.
Designs are the least of Pokémon's issues.
The games' increasing lack of content is the main point of contempt.
