No, it's to remind people that GameFreak has more than enough money on top of whatever they make from the games.
Defenders of them seem to think they're being fed scraps every single game and have to work with 70 dollars and a stale cookie to makes these games, when that shouldn't be even remotely possible unless TPC somehow has them by the balls.

No it doesn't. The merch sales greatly eclipse the video game sales and even of those video game sales not all of it is games done by GF.

Pokemon is a 3-way split between Nintendo, Creatures and GameFreak. Anything TPC does, which is also a 3-way split between Nintendo, GameFreak, and Creatures, has to come back to GameFreak in some amount.

Bottom total is Game Freak's overall contribution to the biggest media franchise in the world anon. About $12 billion. The card games pull in pretty much similar to what Game Freak do and the merch dwarfs it by a ratio of over 4:1. These are gross totals too, which means expenses, operating costs and related have to be deducted before we get the actual profit margins.
