I got dumb poo brain, but why are double battles the "official" format for Pokemon?
The majority of battles people play in the games are single, I bet a lot more players would be more inclined to participate in tournaments as well if it was singles.

Singles isnt marketable. Fans don't want to see 1000 turns of switching between Sableye, Clefable, Chansey, Toxapex, Zapdos

VGC is a spectator sport and doubles are faster-paced.

Singles, even 3v3 singles, are slower-paced.

OP here, I kinda figured these were the reasons why but I wasn't too sure. Maybe I should go the way of the doubles. I dabble in it sometimes but never really jumped in to really enjoy it.

Gen 9, singles format gets cut from the main story campaign. Doubles becomes the new standard. Screencap this.

I would actually like it if doubles became more of a staple in the story. Like if certain battles became doubles at a certain point then they would be normalized for sure.

Grinding goes a heck of a lot faster, and VGC's already in that format. If they want more players getting into it, start'em early to where they eventually learn without realizing it. Maybe start out as singles for the first 2-3 gyms, and from there on, go pure doubles. Maybe throw in an occasional singles, but doubles is fun.

Because you can do the Azelf+Ghost bomb. You do explosion with Azelf right at the beginning and you blow up 2 enemies for the price of 1

>More balanced. In singles a sufficiently set up pokemon can sweep a full team, and some pokemon only need one turn to get set up. In doubles, you can always use things like protect, or your partner to take down a set up pokemon. Even things like evasion are more balanced in doubles as you have double the turns to stop the setup before it happens.

I wish you could choose to play in doubles the way you choose switch or set. I only ever play doubles and the GC games showed that a full doubles game still plays fine.
