If you were to retroactively create and introduce regional variants for the regions that existed before the mechanic was introduced (1-6), what hypothetical Pokémon variants would best suit each region?

Unova might have been hilarious. Do you think the pokemon company would have been as blunt as when Level-5 did "american yokai" for yo kai watch? One was literally an existing yokai that they just made twice as fat, put in some hillbilly clothes, and put fried chicken in his hand.

I do wonder Unove would'v ehad regional variations instead if they had this idea earlier.

an ursaring thats an ice type instead of beartic
a paras/parasect variant thats rock/bug instead the crustle line
or a a psychic zubat instead of a wubat.

although honestly It think the regionals came formt he reaction of the BWdex.
