the spots where you fight dynamaxed pokemon in the wild area have the same shape. Probably a reference to the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, despite them omitting the country from their UK region.

Zygarde already got its spotlight in the anime because Yo-Kai Watch canceleld their plans for another Kalos game

Being shoehorned in Gen 7 was proof that Zygarde will never be relevant in the games

There will never be continuity in a Pokémon game.
Every game is per se and conceived as a disposable product. They made it clear like never before with SwordandShield. You are supposed to forget about Alola and Kalos and only come back if you want to play again a removed feature like Dexnav or Megas. At best you'll get a cameo of some charachter or npc references like its always been.

Unlike the other mysterious "third legendaries" (Rayquaza, Giratina, Kyurem, and Necrozma), Zygarde was never expanded on

It's played no role in any game it's been in, it's never been anything more than a postgame extra
