Blaziken has been banned since it got speed boost the mega was overkill. Even if it couldn't mega evolve it still fucks a lot of ou pokemon.

Honestly I am sure it is even RU without speedboost, but complex bans do open a large can of worms. Should I be able to use sand force lando-i in OU, swarm scizor in RU, Thick fat azu in uu, kings shieldless aegi in OU, hyper cutter crawdaunt in RU etc.

To some extent it forces smogon to tier every pokemon as 1-3 different pokemon with abilities.

They're dumb, because they already did complex bans. Baton Pass is a complex ban. Rain ban in gen 5 was complex. Banning abilities like Shadow Tag and Arena Trap can be seen as complex especially since Pokemon like Dugtrio weren't even Uber tier before and now they're useless

Just ban Blaziken + Speed Boost and nobody cares

Baton pass is no longer a complex ban.
Rain was a complex ban that everyone agrees was a mistake and shouldn't be repeated.
Shadow Tag and Arena Trap were broken on everything that got them, even shit like Diglett and Gothita.

It has 80 base speed but it also has Speed Boost. Meaning it's guaranteed to have 120 speed as long as it survives 1 turn. Which it will because it can learn Protect. Are you saying that 120 speed is slow?

Complex bans, by Smogon definition, are banning a combination of things rather than a single thing. So ability or move bans aren't complex bans. Since Gen 5, there's been a big overhaul in bans, even completely redoing the bans in old gens in order to remove old complex bans. Baton Pass is now banned entirely across most gens, as are Swift Swim, Chlorophyll, and Sand Rush in Gen 5. Smogon basically has dismantled complex bans entirely, so there's no argument left of "they do it anyways, so just unban Blaze Blaziken"

The only complex ban left in newer gens is endless battle clause, which looks like its on its way out to be replaced with banning Heal Beam and Leppa Berry sooner or later.

I mean endless battle clause is kind of an exception because it is not designed to actually ban something for competitive balance as funbro, mew, w/e isn't actually OP or even good. It is just to stop a metagame cancer of wasting peoples time for points.
Though I could see heal pulse just being banned in singles because it does nothing relevant and the only theoretical uses are like heal pulsing a reversal sweeper or heal pulsing a locked in talonflame so it will go first against something to activate something like a berry or torrent.

You can run Protect (for Landorus), Earthquake (for Toxapex), Swords Dance (for ???), but not all three.

It probably depends? For dynamaxing, because its a generic mechanic, the entire Pokemon will likely get banned, since they're using a generic battle mechanic to win, there's nothing exclusive to that mon in particular to ban.

Gigantimaxes on the other hand have some precedent to be banned or tiered separately, since Megas were. There's event precedent of "You're not allowed to press this button" because all Ubers Ray sets use Dragon Ascent, which means they can all mega, they just aren't allowed to actually do it. But since it doesn't require a special item, there might not be enough "stuff" to differentiate non-gigantimaxing mons and their normal versions, so they might be lumped together. We won't know until we actually have the games and have a chance to see how things work.
