Technically they aren't reusing any of the models. They all have new textures at the very least.

But saying they were built completely from scratch is wrong and misinformed.

Even if this was true, do you think this makes GF look good? Because it doesn't, if anything it makes them look even more incompetent.

Disregarding the fact that a situation where the models can't be exported would be basically impossible (IIRC, Creatures Inc. uses Maya, probably the most used 3D modeling software in the industry and the standard), recreating the pokemon to look exactly like the 3DS models is just stupid

I doubt Creatures somehow lost all models during developing LGPE and SS and managed to remake them polygon by polygon in such a short period of time.

Dude if they made new models for SS as early as SM and those are the models they're saying they couldn't use in SS then they are either completely incompetent or lying, and also have all the models done to include all 807 existing pokemon so their entire graphical improvement argument falls apart. And datamining has already proved the models are the same since XY except new pokemon that obviously do need to be made from scratch before they can be used moving forward.

Don't even need to, the models are handled by Creatures and they license the source files out to any company that needs them. Niantic, Takara Tomy, Bandai Namco, all of them get the models from Creatures.

As a modeler/animator with access to all the gen 7 assets, I feel like I could provide a comprehensive look at all this shit and put it to bed for good with damning evidence and comparisons. That's actually a good question. I'm inclined to believe that more mesh detail was made for the faces as to allow more polys to morph for the facial animations.
It wouldn't make much sense again to change the body since they aren't in any way animated in ways that can't be done with the 3ds rigging of the body for Pikachu. But hey, give me a few minutes of searching and I'll get back at you with more substance.

Ok so what I found is interesting. I downloaded the ripped models from the Switch and loaded them into blender.
Partner Pikachu has a lot of extra hairstyles and shit that I just deleted because whatever, obviously those increase the poly total. But doing that I found something else.
The eyes are empty. The individual eyes seem to be models that come along with PartnerPikachu but are seperate.
I don't think the Poly count is significantly higher but just the fact that the eyes are not just stickers is probably what makes them special.

The models from Pikachu and Eevee, are the same model but upgraded, you can tell because most of the models wireframes are the exact same while other parts of it are tuned up.
Pikachu's arms, legs, neck, and cheeks have more loops on them to let them animate better, and his mouth is actually fully modeled.
We know for a fact that Pikachu's model is the old 3DS on because his mouth is a texture in SS

In the end, partner Pikachu and partner Eevee did have a slightly updated model (that wasn't used for any other Pikachu or Eevee, not even in SS). The whole situation makes no sense.

The Go textures are fairly low res too, but perhaps better than the 3DS. I don’t know exactly how they do the textures but maybe it’s possible to make it at a high resolution (or use vector instead of raster) and then scale it down for the 3DS? Not sure how pixel-perfect it needs to be.

Weavile though? I'm not seeing the difference here. The marked circles look exactly the same in both models. The only difference is caused by one being a higher quality picture of a model in a T pose, and the other a screenshot of a low quality video showing the same model but bigger.
The mouth IS different, but animations are animations, so I wouldn't take a static picture as a solid proof of anything until we saw Weavile's animation/s in SwSh.

The 3DS one has thicker lines because the lines need to be visible on the lower resolution screen while the Switch doesn't have this restriction so they made the lines subtler. Get your eyes checked.

You need to realize that there's more than that. Shading, lighting and resolution can also make things look different. Doesn't mean the data (or some of the data, for that matter) is the same.

Not really, but we can use your special terminology if you really want. The point still stands.

We could even go to the extreme case where some of the meshes have minor improvements. They're still nothing significant or absolutely necessary to justify the lack of Pokémon, which is the entire point.
