What do you mean? Isn't Mario basically the same as Pokemon? Same general gameplay with each entry, just with a new gimmick tacked on.

Yes, but also no

Pokemon gimmicks tend to be... bad, things that look good in trailers, but are detrimental to how fun the games are in practice.

Mario gimmicks tend to be intrinsically tied to the game, making the experience feel like a cohesive whole

Of course, I'm only talking about main series titles here, spinoffs are their own mess for both Mario and Pokemon

You only think Pokemon has a deep system because you played competitively and you know the game better than most players, but most RPGs have similar mechanics. Just look at the inner calculations on Dark Souls, they make Pokemon look like a joke and it's a fucking real-time battle system

meanwhile pokemon is that all the time.

the games also try to actually keep up and actually push the hardware. odyssey is less than 6gb in size and runs at 60fps all the time. its really well optimized. they actually put a lot of effort into those games.
a nintendo made pokemon game would be great.

You don't now what are you talking about

Hundreds of weapons with over 10 different attacks + 4 types of damage + criticals + effects (bleeding, curse) + scaling + poise damage + different damage depending on where on the body you end up hitting + bonuses on parries / backstabs / broken guard + different damage depending on how the weapon does damage (thrusting / blunt attack / slash) + durability + damage modifiers depending on your rings and armor + damage buffs from objects and magic. That's only what I know from the top of my head and I'm sure I'm forgetting something

And that's only for the damage calculation, I'm not gonna talk about damage reduction (i.e. armor) because I have better things to do

Masuda shouldn’t be in charge of Pokémon.
His weird, tired, “these darn kids and their cell phones” stance is actively poisoning the series, and it feels like some kind of weird personal issue.
It feels like he was introduced to a spoiled nephew, who, when asked if he liked uncles Pokémon games, spottily replied that he prefers to play fortnite on his phone, and this hurt masuda deeply and broke his ability to make games.
