Ice gains energy but can't keep it thus the state change, if it gains energy too fast it fucking explodes.
Water gains energy slowly and can store ridiculous amount of it proportional to it's mass before changing state, it also loses that energy at a really slow pace.
When compared how ice and energy gain and lose energy it's almost a 2k rate of difference from each other despite it being the same substance.
This is why water leads to life in this planet as water absorbs solar heat and energy, creates the water cycle and prevents the world from overheating while keeping just the right density to avoid the atmosphere from escaping the atmosphere, this all originates from specific heat.
TLDR ice got nothing on water.
