Alola would have been a postgame area in a gen 4-5 game. It's small as fuck and lacks enough new Pokemon to be worth exploring.

Every island has multiple routes and points of interest. About equivalent in quantity to Sinnoh and Unova's postgame areas, although not necessarily in quality. The first island would be a bit small for something like that, though.

They really aren't. Some islands are just small towns, and the ones that aren't are about the size of one to two routes.

I'm sorry where is this myth that all the games had huge substantial postgames until just recently coming from? postgames have been anemic at best, gen 2 had all of kanto but that was in exchange for a pretty small main region.

Small by what standards?
Johto was still fairly sizeable.
Battle Frontier, Sevii Islands, Battle Area, and the unlocked routes in Unova are definitely pretty big post games.
Gen 6-7 can't even remotely match up to these.

why does postgame only mean new areas to /vp/?
unova easily had the most postgame content but people think all there is to it is the new areas you unlock. its sad.
