I'm the biggest Zelda cocksucker around, and even despite enjoying Zelda 1 and its difficulty curve, I can acknowledge that it was shitty. Its inability to convey information visually was only outdone by its sequel, Zelda 2, which is a dumpster fire, and one of the two Zelda games I consider to be outright bad.
Like Zelda 1, RBGY had some endearing points to it, but it's a historical relic now, with a lot of bugs and just flat out bad mechanics. Additionally, unlike Zelda 1's unique structure relative to the rest of the series, RBGY was flat out remade, into games that are largely considered to be the definitive versions of Kanto.
This is also putting aside that the reason people here dislike Kanto so much is that GF is constantly making obnoxious callouts to it. It would be like every Zelda game having an old man that says 'It's dangerous to go alone, take this', or having every single game feature the candle, even after far more fun items have been introduced after to replace it.
