One day a kid tried to fax something to a friend, one of his pokeball was standing on his fax machine
While faxing whatever he was faxing, the pokeball turned to light and disappeared. The kid freaked out, since he had never seen anything teleport and because his precious pokemon could be lost forever.
His friend whom he had faxed called him, he told the kid that his pokeball appeared out of thin air when he recieved the fax
The next day, it was in the headlines
Turns out Pokemon are able to turn thier pokeball to electric signal/data and travel along communication lines specificly.
They then build machine to use this ability, allowing transfering and trading as long as there was somekind of phone line.
That would justify why pokeball are so cheap, it's just plastic and a bit of tech to help the pokemon trigger this ability
