We've had tons of trainers with designs modeled after Pokemon, so looking back I don't know why our first thought seeing basically that with the Ultra beasts was "clearly they're pokemon in disguise" rather than just them being inspired by the designs of the Ultra Beasts.

I thought Squidmom was cooler, but heavily underutilized. The fight was nice & the music was great, but had it been up to me, I think Lusamine should’ve fused with Nihilego earlier on, used her new squid powers to mess with shit, and went more & more batshit because of it as the game progressed, or got her mind absorbed into a Nihilego hivemind or something. Lusamine was actually a pretty cool villain for such a crappy game, and getting rid of her transformation in USUM just hurt the game in the end.
Rainbow Rocket sucked donkey balls & was nothing but shitty pandering to oldfags because GF knew how bad they fucked the pooch.

Honestly I think it might be that they were also meant to be fought separately from the totems, but both were in the game. I really like SM unlike the majority of /vp/ but its undeniably rushed and it really starts to show after the second Aether visit. It felt like the first time where Gamefreak tried in a while and there’s some genuinely fun and interesting ideas. And now that Sword and Shield are on their way it seems they’ve gone back to the status quo. I’m really surprised people aren’t complaining about how fucking plain that game looks so far coming from the wild originality of aliens in Hawaii.

I mean, I get why. Not only would it have been kinda even more questionable using Pokemon to attack what is still technically a human, but it'd also allow hackers to do weird shit probably. If Lusamine was something combatable, then you know hackers would find a way to inject her as a pokemon you could use and that'd be super weird.
Still, she would have been one of the most unique bosses in any Pokemon game.

Part of me wants to hope they’re waiting to show the weird shit off later but I’m not counting on it. I think they announced the Wild Area off too early and now they have nothing to show but the disappointing and/or boring bits. It’s such a fucking plain region from what we’ve seen and the whole sports and big Pokémon gimmick is an absolute snore. Chairman Rose and King Kanto have the potential to be an interesting villains but I’m not counting on it.

I think it would have been better if Lusamine didn't send out her Pokemon. Instead, they were already wandering around outside of their Pokeballs in the room you encounter them. Then when she gets mad, they step in and start attacking you. It could have even utilized the SOS gimmick to have two of them on the field at once. I think it would have been a lot less silly than having a Pokemon battle with UB-Lusamine.

But after releasing X&Y, it is one year that they released ORAS, then 2 for Sun/Moon. Don't you think it is strange that Pokemon game releases are a bit too close like that? Everyone pretty much thinks it's a leftover from a cut plotline where Lily was Nihilego and was just meant as a clue. Beyond that the only thing it could mean is that it makes cutesy expressions with its tentacles.

We know that Pokemon go through a lot of changes in the design process, like the whole Gen 2 beta or the anecdote about Sunfisk changing designers late into the balancing phase.

Lusamine never saw any Ultra Beasts until you arrive at Aether Paradise. Its quite fucking obvious that her dialogue implies that, so Lillie dressing similar to Nihilego is an allegory for how Lusamine is imprinting her forced affection onto her ideal version of Lillie: something with little will of its own that she can control.

Marshadow's name was trademarked super early (probably because of the movie), alongside Sogaleo, Lunala, and the starters. People assumed the connection was Sun, Moon, and Mars, despite everyone who knew anything about Japanese trying to explain that "Mars" and "Marsh" are written different. Not that "Martial + Shadow" was obvious without knowing what it looked like.

That's the whole reason why USUM Lusamine was even shittier than her character in the prequels because she didn't have the neurotoxins as an excuse for her edgy bullshit. They even made her more sympathetic as well when there's no asspull or retcon to use as a redemption plot device.
