We will never get optional postgame content again. All you're getting is the bare minimum Battle Tower clone. This isn't the path we chose, but it's the path we are on. Pokemon is dead and Gamefreak killed it.

No one defended ORAS removing the Battle Frontier besides a handful of corporate cocksuckers who defend the culling too.
The only other “defense” really is complaining about BW removing the battle frontier, along with following Pokemon and Bases/Underground, which is moreso a stab at BW than defending ORAS.

What about all the removed RS content? Had to make room for soaring! A less efficient Fly. Why would you want to wince at N64 sky map and pilot to the tiny spot you’ll never find opposed to clicking on where you wanna go and fast travel there?
That said, imagine how cool soaring could have been in a good game like BW? Any flier could do it. You just hop on their back and glide over every obstacle like you’ve always wanted to in those games.

Just look at the requirements for the trainer stars and stamps.

There were typically 4 to 5 requirements, and each of them had variety. Starting with Gen 6, it's basically "complete dex, get streak" and that's it. What a sad state of affairs.

I'm assuming the "stars" in SwSh outside of the obligatory beat game and complete dex

I’ll excuse ORAS because even though it’s a downgraded RSE, you do have access to every Pokémon and attack, and I will say in a vaccuum it’s not that bad. If RSE didn’t exist I’d put ORAS above XY. Unlike SM which isn’t even a fucking game. We didn’t know how good we had it in crappy ass gen VI. Sure, it’s the next worst in terms of quality, but there is a huge fucking gap between XY/ORAS and SM. At least the former had good online. That was the defining part of VI. This board had never been healthier and more positive/active than gen VI. ORAS planted the seed of dissent and SM pushed us over the edge. LGPE just fueled the SM fire but now the culling has buried it.

tl;dr ORAS is a downgraded RS with some perks, and in a vacuum it’s not terrible either

Fuck the anniversary.
We got 3 half baked games with missing content because of the dumb notion that there needed to be a new Generation on the anniversary.
XY never got Z
ORAS never got the battle frontier
And SM never got post game gyms or what ever those construction areas were for.
Maybe if GameFreak actually took their time or hired more people, then maybe they wouldn’t be struggling to make a basic as fuck RPG that they have a template for.

Wasn't in LGPE, and they'd have to make new sets to accommodate features gained and lost, which is too much effort.
No postgame whatsoever aside from catching Eternatus and Online, can't rematch the league either because it's a gargantuan annual event, not just you strolling in and battling the Elite Four whenever you want.
