Honestly I'd be more accepting of this trashy design if they did one of two things.

Sexual Dimorphism was tried and pushed hard in gen 4 but then they stopped doing it as much. It really sucks and I hate that they didn't continue going hard into the idea.

Pokémon should look gender neutral so GameFreak can avoid controversy like these. It’s so simple, make the Pokémon then just add gender symbols next to the name and you’re done. No need to add anything to the Pokémon visually to separate their sexes, just make the Pokémon look good. It’s a children’s game after all.
