>You just want to break the game with your level 100 Charizard!
In every game that is possible to transfer old Pokémon, you must beat the elite 4 first. It wouldn’t be possible to beat the game with a transferred level 100 Pokémon because it would not obey you without all the badges anyway.
>Just use the new Pokémon! Why do you care about the old ones?
Most people will be using teams full of new Pokémon during their in-game playthrough of new games. Players would still like the option to transfer their old Pokémon from previous games to battle with.
>They’re just going to sit in your box all day anyway, why bother transferring them?
One of the core features of Pokémon is to battle against other players. Transferred Pokémon will not just sit in a box, they will be used for battle, as the series intended. Even the weak Pokémon will be used by players who like experimenting and using underdog Pokémon.
>Nobody cares about X shitmon! It’s a waste of time putting them in the game!
You may not care, but other players obviously do, otherwise there wouldn’t be any backlash. Not only is this argument disingenuous because every Pokémon is someone’s favorite.
>You couldn’t catch them all in any other games, so why does matter?
From R/S onwards you could always transfer Pokémon into new games, regardless of whether you could catch them in that game. For Pokémon Sword and Shield, that will not be the case, and Pokémon that are not native to Galar cannot even be transferred.
>I never transfer, so dexit doesn’t affect me! I’m going to buy the game anyway.
This controversy is about more than just the Pokédex cuts, the fans of the Pokémon series are displeased with Game Freak cutting more and more corners with each new iteration. It’s fine if you are looking forward to the game regardless, but there is nothing wrong with fans demanding better product for their money. This is how capitalism works, after all.
