It's because LGPE had an actual overworld artstyle. It was super basic and looked like a last gen title but at least the player, NPCs, and Pokemon looked like they belonged in their surroundings. Meanwhile SwSh looks like a Frankenstein of misc. assets and textures slammed together thoughtlessly.
