Every redditor who nuts over Witcher 3/Horizon Zero Dawn/whatever thinks open world means automatically good game design.

"See that mountain? You can go there" is a good example of feature creep when done wrong. I get it sounds exciting but it doesn't automatically make your game good.

Your guided tour can consist of a main quest type of deal where you can just stick to it and its restrictions, criteria, etc. Open world elements would simply allow you to take the "scenic route" to get to where you're going if you'd like. There are also ways GF could do a pseudo-open world or a hybrid world, but what I have in mind would need its own thread.

Hmm. Okay, I agree. What people seem unable to realize is that a good open world experience is actually pretty fucking difficult to pull off. GF isn't in the same league as developers who have successfully mastered good open worlds, so without help from big names, they'd probably fail.
