>>39420279Not him, but Mauler is awful. He pretends to only want to view movies "objectively" and his videos are so long because the content of the movies he's analyzing are objectively bad. However media is naturally subjective and he pretends to hide this bias, but ultimately fails and praises movies that are just as derivative.
Beyond that he has extremely shallow knowledge of cinema and not a lot to pull from when judging movies. The fact that he considers Infinity War to be the "least broken most well done movie of 2018" shows just how small his pool of movies is. Repeatedly in EFAPs you can see that he hasn't seen many movies pre-2000s or many movies that aren't Hollywood blockbusters. How am I supposed to trust what he says on the nature of cinema when most of the stuff he's watching and praising aren't actually particularly well made or shining examples of filmaking.
You might think that this is me being elitist, but this does actually effect his ability to comment on topics, and causes him to find certain ideas novel, when in actually the aren't he just doesn't have a big enough pool of films to draw from. In his post-Endgame EFAP he is talking with an uninterested E;R about time-travel and asks what people think is the most well done and well thought-out use of time-travel is. He talks about how he thinks BTTF is really well done and scientifically sound and a good example of it, while BTTF is fun and a great time it is nowhere near as well thought out as other time travel media.
There are also time in EFAPs where he's commenting on videos, but just can't really contribute because he just hasn't seen the thing in question, his classic cinema library is lacking.
He honestly just really comes off as uniformed and shallow in a lot of his reviews and while he can claim objectivity all he wants it's clear that he has biases.
