In fact, the screeching back then was from overconcerned (liberal) christians spreading the satanic panic about pokemon. They were pretty easy to ignore because their heretical bullshit was not actually based in the bible and made no sense whatsoever.
I miss when people of any religious views felt comfy with pokemon because gen 4 didn't exist and bring the Arceus cringe that it did.
