How should they handle Mega Evolutions in future titles? Should they be brought back at all?

Make the Gigantmax pokemon into megas and add in some new megas but make them more gimmicky and more of a horizontal improvement or have more special qualities but fix the problems the mons had before hand and if that isn't enough or the demand is high enough give it a mega, but some need a evolution instead like banette or audino

Mega Evolutions weren't really handled well to begin with. I would have liked for megas to be given situational reasons not to mega evolve. The best example I can think of is Sableye, where Prankster is a useful ability too, and so you might gain an advantage by utilising Prankster before mega evolving. Gyarados is another one that can cycle intimidates + gains a different typing which can avoid an OHKO from an overpredicting fighting move. Slowbro with Regenerator also fits in this category. Mega Ampharos gains a typing + is slow, so it may be preferred to not mega evolve until the dragon/fairy threat is gone. These are reasons not to mega evolve, which I think makes them more interesting to use and battle against.

Megas should gain a different typing or at the very least a different ability. Some like Scizor, Blaziken, and Tyranitar are just a +100 stat boost, not even their ability changes. Some like Beedrill and Kangaskhan are so poor in their base form and so great in mega form, you would never consider not mega evolving ASAP if you can.

Just to fix a few for typings:
Mega Banette becomes Ghost/Fairy
Mega Glalie becomes Ice/Dark
Mega Rayquaza becomes pure Flying
Mega Swampert becomes Water/Rock or pure Water
Mega Absol becomes Dark/Fairy
Mega Beedrill becomes Bug/Dark

The fact that the three Gen VI starters should have had Mega evolutions but didn't while the three kanto starters got them and were given RIGHT at the beginning of the game is enough to justify their departure, my fave bro Gallade will miss it, but it'll come back.
