I'm playing Platinum now. How do I beat this asshole? I have a Tropius who is close to being able to compete, he is immune to ground but doesn't have any ice moves. If I were to get an ice mon I would basically have to start from scratch, should I do that? If so who should I use?

Yeah, Cynthia is actually very hard because her Pokemon aren't monotype, they have perfect IVs, and her fucking Garchomp is a monster. The Garchomp in Platinum has Flamethrower so you can't dick around with Ice- or Steel-types anymore.

Her Garchomp knows Flamethrower, so keep that in mind. You need to outspeed it with an ice move, or another Garchomp who's EV trained. There is no other way, unless you wanna use some speed/paralysis/sleep/etc

Empoleon - Lv. 60
Giratina - Lv. 60
Luxray - Lv. 60
Rapidash - Lv. 60
Lucario - Lv. 55
Tropius - Lv. 55

I did roll the Elite Four with this team but the ones I was really leaning on in those battles are all weak against ground, so when I hit Garchomp it was kind of a bloodbath.

It sucks not planning ahead for this, but I always make teams to cover all weaknesses anyways, so it's never that much of an issue. But empoleon won't live after earthquake for an ice beam, so, yeah.

You'd need max EV's speed + nature or super bulky stats to win with empoleon. It ruined mine with one earthquake, and I EV trained it a bit.

I’m thinking of giving Gen 4 another chance. I dropped it twice, for... reasons. But having played and beaten Gen 1 through Gen 7 (with the exception of Gen 4), I feel like I should beat the damn game so that I can say I’ve beaten them all. So, sell me on the game, bros. Where are the SINNOHHHBROS at? Whats the difference between Diamond/Pearl and Platinum, and will my choice affect my enjoyment. Can I turn Barry off?

Barry is not as annoying as people seem to remember. It's nice free exp. Also, the only significant difference between DP and Platinum are the exclusive pokemon. Platinum is just the better game all the way, with more content, story, and stuff.

They tend to run slow on og hardwarw, but through emulation or playing from a 3ds, you get proper speeds that are never annoying, at least besides the HP thing, to witch I personally never cared that much about.

I seem to have mixed memories of her DP team with her BW team, where spiritomb has will-o-wisp and double team.

Don’t listen to this anon, just replayed platinum days ago with Emp and the fucker survived an earthquake for an easy OHKO. If yours isn’t bulky just grind till you’re equal level and you’ll win.

You can get a lot of Pokemon that can take a hit from Garchomp or outspeed it. Floatzel, Weavile can both outspeed it and have good enough Attack stats to take it out with a super effective ice move. Mamoswine might be able to tank a Flamethrower with HP EVs or a defensive nature.

I have a ‘new’ 3ds. I would normally default to the 3rd entry anyways, only platinum is getting stupidly hard to find, and can be expensive online. Diamond and Pearl can be found pretty much anywhere.
