Why are there still utterly useless abilities around like Illuminate, Run Away and Honey Gather?

Can't Game Freak give Dodrio Tough Claws instead?

I agree. dodrios defining trait is its tough looking claws.
run away and tangled feet definitely don't suit its design more.

If GameFreak didn't suck dick they would update abilities each gen to at least put up a semblance of an attempt to stop power creep, but it's GameFreak so yeah. Enjoy Run Away, but you got +10 speed!!

If you want to buff Dodrio, then how about you change Tri-Attack instead.
Make it so that the kind of damage it deals changes depending on the Pokemon's highest stat.
That way you can use its defining feature without having to deal with its shit special attack.

Run Away can be buffed to always allow Dodrio (and it's allies) to escape trapping effects and Pursuit without taking damage.

Tangled Feet works but should up the evasion. I'm confused as to whether it's a single or double boost, but whatever it is double it.

There we go. Try and emphasize Dodrio's uniqueness. Honestly the lack of creativity and diversity in suggestion threads (give it huge power/tough claws/sheer force/technician/etc) is exasperating.

Run Away - Cannot be trapped at all

Honey Gather - Eating a Berry in battle makes a special honey out of it, basically just giving the Berry a second use.

Illuminate - Strengthens the power of the user's light-based moves.

What are you talking about? If you play offline you will do just fine with any mon, unless you're using Shuckle or something. If you're talking about official tournaments or something I assure you that they would be bland and boring regardless of buff and nerfs.

Mega Audino still has Healer.
An ability that does literally nothing in singles and has a 30% chance of curing 1 ally's status in multis.

Not even a "cures status at the beginning of a turn". No it just MIGHT cure the status.

Illuminate isn’t really that great but the other two are alright. Honey for trees and guaranteed escape. But I do agree that Pokémon with a pure pve ability should either have a second ability or hidden ability that’s good for pvp

It helps against Shadow Tag, Magnet Pull (if a Steel-type would get the ability anyway), and the large assortment of trapping and partially trapping moves. And Pursuit, in my suggestion anyway.
