Because that was 16 years ago and they had an actual reason why older mons couldn't be transferred in. Now we actually have the ability to transfer mons between entire consoles but certain mons get locked out because reusing the models and animations is too stressful.

But that was part of the reason Pokèmania died. People were vocal against not being able to transfer their Pokèmon so that was when a lot of boomers fell off the franchise. This isolation from the first two gens is actually a huge part in why genwunners exist. Not to mention that these Pokémon were eventually added vis FRLG/Emerald and the Orre games unlike with SWSH where Masuda says from now on that all future games will have this approach of making their Dex

In 2003 it was even worse, you couldn't transfer your bromons at all. You had to leave them in GSC forever.
Today, all your Pokemon will be transferable to Home. Some of them won't be in SwSh, but they will all stay with you.

Yes they are not coded...and? You have just to wait for the next games and then you can still fill the pokedex with Home. What’s the point of transferring them all in everygame? Haven’t you transferred the same pokemon over and over from older games to newer ones thank to Bank and never use them? The only thing that changes now is that you can’t play with a literally who finneon in 1 pair of games, but (surely) you can in the future ones.
Stop criticizing SwSh for the dex, it has many other flaws, but not this one

Every pokemon is someone's favorite, that argument is invalid.
And just like you said the game has many other flaws, but that's just what makes the dex cut so much worse. We couldn't AT LEAST have all the pokemon in what objectively looks like a shit game? Transferring from gen 7 to gen 8 is possible, they're just restricting what we're actually allowed to use. We already know for a fact that Game Freak did this intentionally and for no other reason than to be lazy.

I'd wager that the reason for the culling is to sell us more games down the road with the missing pokemon.
If they release SwSh with everything, they'd need to create even more pokemon or no one would have a reason to buy the next games.
Instead they're going to deliver legacy mon with each title, so you have to keep buying them all and paying for Pokemon Home.

I'm not sure if Game Freak is lazy, or even incompetent in programming. I believe that they just have their priorities skewed. I can forgive miniscule graphical upgrades and lack of special and new content, but the removal of part of a core feature requires an explaination if I am to even consider buying SwSh new.
We'll just have to see what the dataminers find. For all we know there might be some Murphy's Law bullshit that most game developers wouldn't be able to deal with in their time constraints.

Also, I not sure if Game Freak is that greedy, either.

How many times do I have to explain this to you Söynium concentrate drinking, reddit browsing retards that RSE has every single Pokemon CODED in the game and while you couldn't do a gen 2 to 3 transfer, any mons you couldn't obtain legally in RS were made available in Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green and even the GC games which you could then transfer back to whatever games you wanted to and complete the national dex for said games. People are pissed off at Sword and Shield REMOVING them entirely as in you can't even save edit mons back in to your team unless they are part of the Galar region dex and Game Freak's response is just "lol we cant copy paste and we suck at basic game development skills so we cut pokemon to have 5 different dynamax and gigantamaxing models of every single pokemon along with 50+ models of Hop and every other NPC in cutscene areas" and "high quality animations." No, XY didn't do it either and neither did SM. That "update" for Pokemon Bank didn't add missing pokemon all they did was turn on a flag on their end so it was possible for you to transfer your mons over. They all had every single mon coded in and ready to use and to add some fucking salt to that wound you're licking even the fucking 3DS games which were probably peak laziness had more better looking attack animations than anything Game Freak has shown so far and on top of that has every single pokemon available in game. Now quit shoving other games under the bus because your fucking dumb ass couldn't even be assed to do some fucking research on other games and just read two or three sentences on the trivia section on some fucking wiki site about gen 3 you fucking uneducated swine

That doesn't mean the cables were compatible with Gameboy games. A GBA link cable will only work for GBA games.

Who am I kidding, Charizard and Lucario are already confirmed, and my favorite Whimsicott is probably already gone because they released the same fucking thing but Galar form. It's going to be years of shilling mons like Eevee and Lucario and Gyarados and shit and it'll take multiple generations before some less popular but still unique and cool Pokemon could be featured again.

Gens 1-7 ALL had every Pokémon at the time available in the game, as they were all programmed into the games, even if you had to transfer or hack them in.
Gen 8 takes away this freedom of choice.
The gen 3 and gen 8 situations are not the same, the latter is of a much greater magnitude, as it's not just not being able to transfer individuals, it's cutting actual species.

The main reason the lack of connection between gens 2 and 3 was okay was how much changed between them. Natures, held items, DVs became IVs, and a whole lot of gameplay changes like double battling and contests.

It is my hope that we'll be seeing a similar transition. I personally find IVs annoying so if they were replaced with nature's affecting more than 2 stats that'd be ideal to me.

Regardless, swsh looks fun so I'll probably get it in December once there's been reviews to confirm how much they've changed.

I was too blown away by the incredible strides made in graphics and animation, going from the GBC to GBA. Everything was bright, in full color.

To say nothing of the new audio capabilities only made possible by the hardware updates. I remember not just seeing my reflection in the water puddles, but then walking through them and listening to those little splashing sounds.

Not to mention there was also the new variety of Pokemon now made available.

The core concept of Pokémon is collection. Trading and by extension transferring are vital to this concept and have been since the original games. The DS having GBA compatibility and wireless communications are the only reasons you can transfer from 3>4 or 5>6 as well. The game also hasn’t been overhauled in quite the same way as the 2>3 shift, either.

We cant play with old shit at all even with cheats since theyre not coded unlike RS. So people are dropping the series.

Who's to say the next games will have Finneon? Or that they won't drop Basculin to make room for it? What if I want both on my team at the same time because I like to roleplay as a fisherman? The initial fanbase was in their rebellious teen years and had the "Pokemon is for kids" mentality, but this is where the sales took a nosedive regardless of how you look at it, and it's hard to imagine that most hardcore fans weren't turned off to it when they learned they couldn't import their original mons to the new game.
