most video games from that era were incredibly glitchy by today's standards, but even for the time pokemon was a little janky, it was primarily the concept that sold it, not the quality of the product which is a marketing tactic that nintendo and TPC still practice today.

I don't know anything about PS so I can't compare to that.
Final Fantasy 7 came out a year after Pokemon Red and Green, and Square was already the biggest name in JRPGs back then. Despite that, the game has the following glitches:
- The Magic Defense stat is not used anywhere in the game, making any equipment that raises it useless.
- The Blind status effect only affects you and doesn't reduce the enemies' hit rate
- You can duplicate items by using two items at once than cancelling the second use.
- There's an area you're supposed to use a special chocobo to reach, but there's actually a few pixels you can land on with your airship
- You can temporarily freeze the game by opening the disc tray while casting a spell, but healing effects will continue. If you have a character with Regen, you will heal to full HP.
- Overflow glitches
- Several unintended skips
- Dozens of glitches involving saving when something is about to start (transition or battle) and reloading
